Trump’s Supreme Court Nominee is a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant Male!

Well, we didn’t get Alex Jones.

But we did get a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant male.

Neil Gorsuch is President Donald Trump’s pick for Supreme Court justice, the president announced in a Facebook Live video Tuesday evening.

Gorsuch, 49, is a US Circuit Judge of the US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, which covers six states. Gorsuch would be the youngest addition to the high court since Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who was 43 years old when he was confirmed in 1991.

Trump invited Gorsuch and his wife to stand next to him at the podium during the announcement. Gorsuch then took to the podium himself, saying that he was “honored and humbled.”

Trump said in the announcement that he promised to “find the very best judge in the country,” who “loves our Constitution” and will interpret it “as written.”

Trump cited his list of considered justices as an example of why this was the “most transparent judicial nomination process in history.”

Trump promoted Gorsuch’s previous Senate confirmation as one that reached bipartisan consensus.

“Judge Gorsuch is a brilliant jurist with an outstanding intellect and a clear, incisive writing style,” a White House statement reads. “He is universally respected for his integrity, fairness, and decency. And he understands the role of judges is to interpret the law, not impose their own policy preferences, priorities, or ideologies.”

He was confirmed by the Senate to the Tenth Circuit US court of appeals in 2006. The White House lists 11 current Senate Democrats, including Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, as having voted to confirm him nearly 11 years ago.

I had never heard of this guy before (not that there is any reason I would have), but from everything I’ve read over the past couple of hours, he’s a hardcore religious right-winger, which is exactly what we wanted.

Here’s a good summary of him.

He’s pretty much everything you would expect, based on the promise Trump made during his campaign.

Jew Schumer is already planning his plots against him.

Fox News:

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and his Democratic colleagues wasted no time Tuesday night voicing “serious doubts” about President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, signaling a tough battle ahead for Judge Neil Gorsuch as the New York senator insisted he garner 60 votes for confirmation.

“The Senate must insist upon 60 votes for any Supreme Court nominee,” Schumer said. “Make no mistake, Senate Democrats will not simply allow but require an exhaustive, robust and comprehensive debate on Judge Gorsuch’s fitness to be a Supreme Court justice.”

The statement raises the specter of a filibuster, though it’s not yet clear whether Schumer or any of his fellow Democrats would take the procedural step to force Gorsuch to clear the 60-vote hurdle.

If they do, Gorsuch would need at least eight Democrats to join Republicans in supporting him, unless GOP leaders take the potentially risky step of lowering the threshold for confirmation.

I’m not sure how that’ll fly. Even the liberal media is saying that Gorsuch is a solid guy who’s going to be hard to fight.

More interesting than the pick itself – which, again, is what we expected – is the fact that he streamed this on Facebook live. That is absolutely fantastic news, and speaks to what direction he is going to go in in the future with dealing with the media. They need to just be bypassed completely, and it appears as though Trump is ready to do that very early on.
