Plato’s Five Forms of Government is an explanation of the inevitable decay of a civilization found in his book The Republic.

In his view, the ideal government is one ruled over by philosopher kings with no personal property or wealth supported by the lower classes. His education would lead him to desire spiritual enlightenment and truth over material pleasures, making him more able to focus on advancing the society as a whole.

Over time, this system will become corrupted in a way which will have the leadership of a country become more and more base and desire material pleasures more than any other.
