It’s just a fact of life that if you choose a gorilla for a mate, you’re going to get caught up in a lot of tribal warfare.

A day after two teenagers were rushed to the hospital after the car they were in was sprayed with bullets, one of them died, according to police.

Officers were called around 11:30 a.m. Sunday to the intersection of Freedom Drive and Tuckaseegee Road.

According to investigators, both victims were inside a Hyundai Sonata and were stopped at the intersection when someone pulled up in another car and opened fire. The suspects sped off and have not been found.

No descriptions have been released.

Detectives said 19-year-old Brianna Stephenson was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. She died on Monday, police said.

Jaquavious Royster, 18, was also taken to the hospital but is expected to be OK.

Channel 9 could see officers on scene focusing on two cars surrounded by crime scene tape and placing evidence markers on the ground nearby.

Authorities have not said what led up to the shooting and no arrests have been made at this point.

The case is now being investigated as a homicide but no other information has been released.
