Bessemer police have arrested the suspect accused of fatally shooting a 19-year-old man at a convenience store parking lot on Saturday.
On Monday, police charged Markey Jerail Evans, 33, with capital murder in the death of Michael Devin Howell, 19.
Police say Howell was shot in the parking lot of the Y Food Mart at the intersection of Fairfax Avenue and Owen Avenue around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Authorities took Evans into custody shortly after the shooting.
Howell was sitting in the passenger seat of a car when he was shot, according to police. Howell’s mother was also in the car but was not injured by a second bullet.
Howell was taken to UAB West and pronounced dead shortly after the shooting.
Evans is also charged with attempted murder of Howell’s mother.
Evans is being held on no bond for the capital murder charge. His attempted murder charge carries a $60,000 bond.
Bessemer police say Evans is being transferred to the Jefferson County Jail.
